The institute undertakes nearly 100 research projects, including national key R&D programs, National Natural Science Foundation projects, and enterprise key projects, and has received nearly 10 national and provincial-level awards.

Research Directions

The institute is one of the earliest teams in China to engage in research on specialized motor drive and control. In recent years, it has conducted continuous research in the field of new energy, energy storage, power conversion, and related systems.

1. Specialized Motor Drive and Control Technology

For many years, the institute has conducted systematic research on mainstream motors such as DC motors, permanent magnet synchronous motors, induction motors, synchronous reluctance motors, and linear motors. It has developed a comprehensive analysis theory and design solutions that encompass motor drive technology, control technology, and fully digital systems. The research results have been successfully applied in aerospace, industrial robotics, and specialized vehicles.

2. High-power Electrochemical Energy Storage Systems and Applications

The institute has conducted research in areas such as high-power electrochemical energy storage power conversion, State of Charge (SOC) balance control, energy management, state sensing, and intelligent fault diagnosis. It has overcome many bottlenecks in high-power energy storage and has successfully applied research results in oil drilling and natural gas power plants, subway energy recovery, aerospace electromagnetic propulsion, and new energy microgrids.

3. Clean Energy Generation Technology

In response to the major strategic needs of national energy revolution, the institute has conducted in-depth research on common technologies for clean energy generation systems, such as photovoltaic power generation, wind power generation, and new energy microgrids. This includes areas like grid-tied inverters, grid control, and phase-locked loops to improve the efficiency and grid quality of clean energy systems and promote their large-scale application. In recent years, a series of research achievements with independent intellectual property rights have been made in photovoltaic micro-inverters and integrated energy storage systems, reaching leading international levels and breaking international technological monopolies.

4. Multi-source Fusion Power Supply and Its Application in Microgrids and Green Hydrogen Production

The fusion and coordinated supply of clean energy, energy storage, and power grids have become an inevitable trend in modern energy utilization. Detailed research has been carried out on capacity allocation methods, distributed energy management strategies, state sensing, and lifespan prediction. The research results have been successfully applied in clean energy generation microgrids, green electrolytic hydrogen production, cluster-based high-power charging stations, and space power stations.

5. Electric Propulsion and Power Conversion Technology for Electrified Transportation

Electric vehicles, specialized vehicles for industrial use, and electrified ships have become important application areas for electric motors and power conversion. In-depth research has been conducted on motor and drive control technology, wired charging technology, wireless charging technology, and Xin1 vehicle-mounted power conversion technology in the field of electrified transportation. The research results have been applied in electric passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, electric forklifts, electrified ships, and underwater unmanned vehicles.
