Institutional Profile

The Electrical Engineering and Automation Experiment Center was established in 2003 by merging the original five specialized laboratories in the fields of electric motors, electrical appliances, automation of power systems, industrial automation, and building electrical and intelligence, and integrating them organically with two international joint labs, the Harbin Institute of Technology-Rockwell Automation Lab and the Harbin Institute of Technology-Siemens Automation and Drive Lab.

The center currently has five specialized labs, four international joint labs, and one student electronic technology innovation base. It serves undergraduate and graduate students majoring in electrical engineering and automation and building electrical and intelligence, providing experimental courses for 29 classes (including electives) with a total of nearly 45,000 student hours. In addition, the experiment center also organizes and trains students at our university to participate in subject competitions such as the "National College Student Electronic Design Competition," the "Siemens Cup China Intelligent Manufacturing Challenge," and the "China Industrial Intelligence Challenge," with remarkable achievements.

Research Directions

The main research fields of the center include: industrial internet communication and information security, and research achievements transformation teaching. To meet the major strategic needs of national industrial control security, the center focuses on the deep defense system, lightweight security protection, multi-level hierarchical intrusion detection, and other technical problems related to industrial internet communication and information security. Supported by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's project on manufacturing industry, the center is building a “security testing and verification platform for industrial robot development and application,” providing an industrial robot security attack and defense practical environment, and independently developing the “Industrial Internet PLC Remote Comprehensive Control Experiment System” to provide an on-campus practice platform for talent training and resource platform for innovative courses and laboratory construction.

Significant Achievements

  • The center has promoted collaborative education between the university and enterprises and actively advanced laboratory construction projects to create a batch of teaching practice platforms. In the last five years, it has undertaken six cooperative education projects between the Ministry of Education and enterprises, six specialized practice teaching platform construction projects, and two virtual simulation experimental teaching platform construction projects.

  • It has continuously improved the connotation of practical teaching, infused subject competitions into practical teaching, and improved students' engineering and innovation capabilities. The center organizes and guides the China Industrial Intelligence Challenge, and has won more than 17 first-class awards in the past five years, five excellent organization awards, and ranked first in the competition nationwide. It also organizes and guides the National College Student Electronic Design Competition, which won eight national first prizes, seven second prizes, 14 provincial prizes, and an excellent organization award in 2023, achieving a historic breakthrough.

  • The center has introduced the cutting edge of subject development into practical teaching, and introduced advanced equipment and project-based teaching methods to enhance the challenge and high-order nature of experimental teaching. In the past three years, it has updated more than 300 sets of experimental equipment, with a total value of more than RMB 4 million, all of which have been put into teaching operation. The self-made equipment, the "Industrial Internet PLC Remote Comprehensive Control Experiment System," won the third prize in the sixth National College Teachers Innovation Competition for Self-Made Experimental Teaching Instruments and Equipment, and has been promoted and applied to universities such as Northeastern University, Xinjiang University, and Beijing Jiaotong University.
